My pollen jocks!

Sitting out here by the hive, its just amazing to see all the girls working. They are bringing in pollen that is white, grey, yellow, brown, cream, greenish, and even some yellow orange. Its amazing to see a community where everyone works for the good of the whole.

Springtime smells

I love walking outside in the spring. Last week the fragrance of apple blossoms filled the air and this week its lilac. Even the trees and leaves smell good when the sun shines on them.

This time of year is magical!

Random power outage

So I was in my room this evening, cleaning and this and that...and all of a sudden, no power! It was out for about 2 hours. We had no bad weather. No car accidents...It just makes me curious what was going on.

Anyways. Its back on now and that makes me and bird happy! Night night!

Whip-poor-will

We have been blessed early this year with whip-poor-wills.  They are an odd looking little bird, but I absolutely LOVE listening to them call.  I'm sure you've all heard them, always at dusk or nightfall, calling 'whip poor will'.  They do this over and over and over (I've counted up to 90 times before) then stop, and then start over.

They are usually an indicator that nice weather is here to stay.  I've never heard them as early as May before.  Usually we hear them in June or July.

Bird songs

So I totally love sitting outside at work on my lunch hour. My store is near a marshy area that is FULL of red winged blackbirds.  They are one of my favorite Birds. They're so pretty to watch, and so wonderful to listen to. I can hear many other birds, like Warblers, and Robins, but the Blackbirds are my favorite.

Spring is here!

BEEutiful day, and where the heck have I been?!

Hey all.  I am sorry that I haven't posted in a while...I've been sick.  I had a lovely case of bronchitis that kicked my butt out of commission for about two weeks.  Ugh, no voice, coughing like it was my job, and a trip to the ER later, and now I'm mostly back on my feet!

I haven't had much time to do any gardening or picture taking or bee things (I did open the hive last weekend).

I opened the hive today, and the bees are going GREAT!  There is TONS of capped brook, lots of eggs and larva, and some that have already hatched.  I love it!

They have been foraging a lot on Dandelions the last couple days, and here is what we get!

They climb all over and around the flower, getting all the pollen and nectar they can before moving on.

Here you can see them bringing the pollen back into the hive...I never knew Dandelion pollen was SO bright orange!

I'm so glad the weather has been getting nicer.  The fresh air feels amazing, and I can't wait to share more of my adventures with you.  Until next time, have a wonderful day!
